Kathy has lived in Torrington for some years, moving from Hertfordshire with her husband & 4 children. Having to give up work for health reasons, she started making costume jewellery, then moving on to wire work with sterling silver. It felt a natural progression to start jewellery classes in July 2009 with Rosemary Brightmore in Shebbear, becoming hooked by the 2nd lesson!
Together with the sterling silver she also enjoys working with 9ct gold, copper & bronze creating beautiful tones of colour in her unique jewellery, using where possible, recycled/reclaimed sterling silver & copper. Kathy loves working with different methods to introduce colour to her work. Using patina's, artist pencils, heat, liver of sulphar, (& many home grown recipes!) Kathy brings out a whole rainbow of colour, golds, pinks, turquoise, greens etc. then polishing to bring out the warm glow of the metal. Everything is made completely by hand, from the original designs through to the beautiful finished piece.
Kathy's work expresses the diversity of the seasons, reflecting on the shapes & colours imprinted on the local country-side & coast in North Devon. Adding to this are the impressions she collected from her journeys around Europe, especially the merging of ancient & new on the Greek Islands.
She uses silver, copper & bronze, together with semi precious stones, contemporary & vintage pearls & crystals, to create unique pieces of work. This autumn/winter Kathy is incorperating other natural elements, leather, sheepskin, wool & silk, so look out for the results here soon!
Kathy loves working on new ideas to create unique designs, so always welcomes commissions. Working with clients to bring the unique piece to life.
*Kathy now has her work for sale at her on line shop -www.limegreensilver.co.uk
*Kathy will be at RHS Rosemoor 26+27th November for their Christmas Craft & Design Fair.
